A magnificently preserved 2 mark 1940 Lodz Ghetto banknote, a denomination very rarely offered in auction listings, especially in such a beautiful state of preservation.
A slight break in the middle, otherwise perfect.
Its rarity is indisputable, and the main reason for this was the low circulation of the banknote. During the period of its circulation, its production was discontinued, and the 2-mark denomination itself was quickly withdrawn due to the "catching" out of circulation of 5500 fake 2-marks (Rauchwerger's forgery, differing in the absence of a dot in the grid subprint).
The numbering on the bill is six-digit, with no series designation, the numbering overprint in orange, a sequence of numbers beginning with 05XXXX , i.e. this is an early printing of this denomination and according to our observations this bill is not known for its high numerator markings, this would confirm the information about its rapid withdrawal.
