The two most indispensable volumes of the Malbork collection catalog from the point of view of Polish numismatics, compiled by Emil Bahrfeldt - volumes 5 and 6 covering Danzig, Torun and Elblag.
The magnificent Malbork collection - looted during World War II and, despite its location and high-level activities, still unreturned today. It contained one of the finest collections of coins from the Danzig, Torun and Elblag mints.
The collection was cataloged by Emil Barthfeldt, and volumes 5 and 6 on the aforementioned mints were published in 1910 and 1916. This study is done to a very high standard, with excellent plates.
The subject of this auction is both volumes, preserved in beautiful condition, in an excellent period binding and with the provenance of the collection of Wiktor Chominski.
Half leather in combination with marbled paper. Both bindings with natural signs of use, but no damage. Outside format 316 x 254 mm. Spine, due to the large format and weight of the editions, with gathers. Binding exquisitely done, with modest gilding on the spine.
Interior preserved beautifully. Block size 305 x 240 mm, waxed at the top. Clean, with only occasional, very carefully made annotations in the text. On the title page of each, pasted-in label of the former German bookstore A. Reichmann & Co. Halle a.S., and in the upper right corner a dry ownership stamp of Wiktor Chominski.
An excellent, classic item.
