The largest set of WNA we have seen on public sale.

Contains successive volumes and issues, starting with the first one of 1889, through the end of 1921, including a separately bound volume with supplements (inserts) to the WNA, generally with price lists and coin offerings.

The provenance of the numismatic library of Viktor Chominski, whose coin collection was put up for sale in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1932, and whose collection the auction catalog counts as one of the four great collections sold before the war. Each volume with an imprinted dry ownership stamp - initials in a circle, under a nobleman's crown. In addition, in places a small ink stamp with initials, red. Numerous paper bookmarks with subject markings in individual volumes.

Completeness: while browsing we did not find any deficiencies, nevertheless it is possible that there may be some, although if there are any, they are minor and insignificant, because although we did not look through the entire collection page by page, we looked through quite carefully.

In addition, the origin of W. Chominski's collection allows us to assume that it is a set collected with care during the era. W. Chomiński's collection was described in "Wiadomosci konserwatorskie" 1925 No. 5-6 (available as part of this auction), where the numismatic library was written about as follows: "P. Chomiński has a wonderfully complete numismatic library, everything that our science has published in this field only - in pieces mostly bibliophilic and beautifully bound."

State of preservation: volume I was printed on acidic and, as a result, very brittle paper after time, which we can also see in this volume. Many of the folds are slightly loosened or even loose, resulting in chipped edges. However, the crumbling is not deep and there are no losses or splits.

Volume 1899-1902 - loose one fold, no damage.

Volume 1903-1908 - slight loosening of two folds.

Additional volume "coin prices" - a crack in the sewing of the spine binding, and as a result, a lot of folds are loose. Although loose, practically without damage.

Periodbinding, uniform and consistent for all volumes. "Technical" in thick, uncolored linen and gray-silver paper. On the spines signboards with gilt embossed on green cloth. The exception is the last volume with a signboard on brown leather.

Endnotes: a tremendous rarity in such a large set. This is the largest set we see in a single sale, covering the most difficult years to collect. It is virtually impossible to complete the WNA from single notebooks these days. There were a very large number of them issued over the years (up to 12 per year). They also included loose supplements with price lists, loose plates, etc. so very often when they come across them, they are incomplete, usually without supplements. Their circulations were also uneven: there are years from which numerous issues survived (e.g., 1902, 1904), but very rare are the years of World War I and just after.

An undoubted asset is the preserved original publisher's cover for the first issue, which we see for the first time.

Definitely recommended

The opportunity to purchase complete volumes, especially in such a large number of them at once, and on top of that in a consistent and uniform binding is an opportunity that happens once every few decades. Here, additionally, with the excellent provenance of a collector enshrined in the history of Polish numismatics.
