A very rare typological thaler.
Type of one year, known from only one variety, highly estimated in catalogs.
Minted during a period of significant reduction of monetary issues in Bydgoszcz (no thalers were minted at all in 1637 and 1639). One year before the death of its long-time administrator, Jacob Jacobson, whose initials I-I are seen more prominently on the sides of the shield.
A type distinguished primarily by a different royal portrait, but also by the placement of the date in the rim, on the sides of the reverse crown.
An item valued for years. In catalogs unanimously rated at R6 rarity grade, in Tyszkiewicz valued at 100 mk, where many thalers of this ruler estimated between 8-18 mk.
Pleasing presence. Dark patina, with contrasting clashing of it from the relief. Filing of the rim at 10 o'clock (checking the metal). Good detail.
