Grade: VF
Collection: The Grain Collection

A typical Utrecht ducat from the first issues of the 18th century. A scarcer date. This year’s ducat (not this example) was found in the Akerendam shipwreck, along with 6,623 other gold coins being transported to the Dutch East India Company (VOC), then a multinational company that issued the first ever shares. The most famous coins from the wreck of Akerendam are Utrecht ducats from 1724.

The first year minted under the management of Silbertus van Romond, who remained the mintmaster in Utrecht until 1732. The letters AE written in the ligature Æ are punched with the letter E with the missing part added.

Circulated specimen.
