Collection: The Grain Collection

In 1796, the provincial government of the Netherlands took control of the West Friesland mint and struck part of the coins for the province of Holland, with its name in the legend. These include rare gold ducats with a small or a large star instead of a dot after HOL in the legend, minted at the Enkhuizen mint in 1796, 1797, 1800, 1801 and 1802. The presented ducat comes from the Enkhuizen mint, which rarely appears in trade, and the image of the knight visible on it appears in 1801 and 1802. The mintage of the Holland ducats from 1801 struck in the Enkhuizen mint is many times lower than of the ducats from the same province, minted in the main mint in Dordrecht.
