Lot description Show orginal version
Grade: VF+/XF
Reference: Dostych 30.1.02 (R5), Kopicki (-)

The rarest type of crown thalers from 1630.

Distinguished by its exquisite style compared to the thalers of Sigismund III. With a distinctly more elaborate royal portrait (including the ruler's beautifully decorated armor, a different face cut), and rich labrys on the sides of the coat of arms shield.

Most likely the stamps were made by a different, and excellent engraver. The style shows similarity to some of the beautiful donations and ducats from the early period of the reign of Ladislaus IV, whose makers are so far unknown by name. It is possible that this is a continuator of Samuel Amon's workshop, as his stamps too are characterized by great finesse, made subtly and with attention to detail.

First time in our offer.

One of the prettiest known pieces of this type.

Silver, diameter 42 mm, weight 28.43 g
