A rarer, early undated Zwolle city issue from the last decade of the 16th century, most likely from 1594–1600. Reverse with an inscription in a square, characteristic of ducats of the Netherlands type, but on the obverse there is an image of a king instead of a knight and a different legend. A similar image and the name of the issuing city can be found on the gold ducats of the Deventer, Kampen and Zwolle city mints.
There are two forms of writing the name of the king: RODOL and RVDOL. This ducat represents the former variety Three dots after AVREA on the reverse. Letters A stamped with inverted letter V points with a dash added. Zwolle city arms between the king’s feet.
